Daniel Rowland
Daniel Rowland is an active educator and performer. Currently, Dr. Rowland is Assistant Professor of Low Brass & Instrumental Music Education at University of Wisconsin – Platteville, where he also performs with the faculty chamber group Ensemble Nouveau. Previously Dr. Rowland was Lecturer of Tuba/Euphonium at Valdosta State University, where he was also principal tubist of several regional orchestras.
Daniel grew up in New Windsor, IL and now resides in Platteville, WI. Dr. Rowland received his DM in Tuba Performance from The Florida State University. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education at Millikin University and his Master of Arts in Music from the University of Northern Iowa.
Dr. Rowland has performed with numerous orchestras, including past appointments of principal tubist with the Coastal Symphony of Georgia, Savannah Philharmonic, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast (Destin, FL), and Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his principal appointments, Dr. Rowland has performed with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and Northwest Florida Symphony and has been recently added to several new regional sub-lists, including the Madison Symphony Orchestra. He also performed in many high-caliber ensembles while pursuing his degrees, such as FSU’s University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra – two of the leading collegiate ensembles in the country. As an orchestral musician, he has performed with several high-quality classical musicians such as Rachel Barton Pine, Elmar Oliveira, and the Boston Brass as well as a multitude of popular artists such as Patti LuPone, Time for Three, Kristin Chenoweth, and Pink Martini.
Dr. Rowland also has experience in a variety of chamber ensembles, varying widely in formation and style. He has played and performed with many brass quintets throughout his career, as well as several other ensembles, including the Florida State Chamber Winds. Dr. Rowland has also performed in several tuba/euphonium quartets and tuba/euphonium ensembles, most notably New Acoustic Metal Experiment (NAME), an innovative quartet that utilizes technology to present “rock and roll” style concerts at conferences, schools, and more.
Dr. Rowland is an active member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association. He performs solo and chamber recitals, adjudicates, and conducts ensembles at various regional and international ITEA conferences each year.
Dr. Rowland performs exclusively on B&S tubas. He currently owns and regularly performs with a B&S PT-6PS CC and the 40th Anniversary Model PT-15 F.
